Fish Paper

Oliner Fibre carries a variety of products that can be used as electrical insulation, or that have insulating properties.

Fishpaper is the name for the electrical grade of Vulcanized Fibre. Fish Paper has unique properties, including light weight, and ease of forming and punching. Fishpaper is also unique because it is more resistant to heat and cold than comparable plastic materials.

While many plastics become brittle or crack in cold temperatures, Fish Paper retains its strength and resilience. At high temperatures, many plastics lose strength or soften, while Fishpaper retains its strength to 115° C and beyond.

Fish Paper has excellent punchability and physical strength, for applications like end laminations for electric motors. Fishpaper is also excellent for use in oil-filled environments such as transformers.

Fishpaper has been the first choice of the electrical industry for over 100 years. It is available in sheets, rolls, or slit to coils of any width.

You may also know it as “Leatheroid”. Some parts of Europe and Asia use the term Leatheroid instead of Fish Paper. Fish Paper was also sold under the tradenames Armite and Peerless.

Our Vulcanex® Vulcanized Fibre has an excellent electrical grade. It is high quality and UL-recognized, and rated 94-HB in .031″ and thicker. You can learn more about our Fish Paper here.

Note: on this page, we have spelled Fish Paper two different ways, as “Fish Paper” and as “Fishpaper”. This was done in order to make it easier to find our products when searching the web. These are both the same product. We apologize if this has caused any confusion.

Industrial Laminated Plastic Sheets

Phenolex has a number of grades with good-to-excellent electrical insulation properties. Phenolex is manufactured in sheets only.

CF-105 Fine Weave Canvas Phenolic has a combination of high strength and good electrical resistance.

PP-116 Paper Phenolic is lower cost than CF-105, but has somewhat lower strength.

EG-403 and EG-413 Glass Epoxy has excellent physical and electrical properties.

SG-230 Glass Silicone is capable of withstanding high temperatures, over 385° F. This is excellent heat resistance, with good physical and electrical strength. It has some of the heat resistance of a Ceramic, at much lower price.

Fibrex

Some Fibrex grades are usable as a cost-saving alternative to Fishpaper. These grades have good electrical properties, and are UL-recognized and rated 94-HB, although not as strong or durable as Fishpaper. Usable for some of the above applications.
